I encourage buyers to message me about the item during the auction, since it can clarify issues that may arise later on when they receive the item and file a claim against me. Communication is good, but not this kind of communication. eBay buyers are dicks these days. You don't just bid on a 500 dollar iPad (which this item was) and decide to not pay...

It's sickening how often this happens.

I also hate selling on eBay. Was selling my HTC One. He bid a bunch of times, including 10 seconds before the auction ended. That message came in 2 days later.

It took me 3 attempts to sell the phone. In the meantime. The average selling price dropped by $80.

2nd time was a guy from Ukraine (said I would not ship to Europe) but the shipping address was an export house in New Jersey. Didn't feel comfortable shipping to a 3rd party with whom I'd have no tracking while they sent it to the buyer so I had to cancel the order.

Yeah haha
I just finished filing after a conflict with a seller....I won.

He has to refund my mney after the product stopped working and he would not assist what so ever

Happens to me all the time. At least 1 in 3 transactions you try to make on eBay get fucked over thanks to assholes like this one.

Isn't there some kind of eBay policy saying something about how if a bid is won the buyer has to pay?

It's so infuriating. I lost time and money because some asshole doesn't know how to manage his finances.

I win all of these. Some guy tried to return a laptop I sold him once, AFTER admitting he had opened it and tampered with it. No way, no how, he kept that laptop broken as it was.

This RC car stopped working after two uses and the seller was like "Go to traxxas we cant help"

So I kept asking him and telling him traxxas wasn't helping

He stopped responding, I escalated and he caved lol

I find if you call eBay you can get things done. It's much easier to make these things happen when you are talking to a live human.

Yes, technically a bid a binding contract saying you'll pay... but we all know how that story goes.

That's what I thought. I haven't used ebay in years. CL now for everything.

I bid on a wifi thermostat I was going to put in my garage last week. But at the last minute I suddenly got wildly outbid. I'm positive it was shilling. Not going to try again. F ebay.

Yeah, this was an iPad Air brand new in box. I hate when that happens, you should be able to file for a loss of money due to these assholes not paying.

Ohh... the famous Ukraine buyers. my favorite lol. I mean as far as I am concerned and eBay is concerned, once it reaches the address the buyer tells you to ship to, you have done your job and anything beyond that is not your fault haha.

That's like going to a dealer and picking a car off the lot. They get it nice and ready, get all the paperwork in order for you, and you just forget to tell them you can't make the down payment. Douches.

I agree, phone calls are probably the most awkward form of human communication.

Exactly.

If I hear a voice I want to see the persons face.

Kinja'd!!! Mathias Rios > Nick, Drives a Cobalt LT

The facial nuances in a conversation make all the difference. At least in texting it's understood that you have to be decently clear about what you're saying.

Kinja'd!!! Nick, Drives a Cobalt LT > Mathias Rios
01/24/2014 at 23:19

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly.

Texting even can be awkward

If someone mistakes a tone or something. On the phone its hard to pick up a fiacial expression, you still have the one of voice

I'm too sarcastic to text, so I run into issues all the time over e-mail and text.

In oerson I never have an issue. I have a monotone voice typically, so I use facial expressions and stuff to get my points across

File a complain for non-payment before he try to harrass you for not sending the items or whatever.

Yep me too. I really hate the "I'll pay you when I get paid next friday". NO! Dont buy shit till you have the money. I'm going to start adding a disclaimer at the bottom of my auctions saying "by bidding you agree to pay interest on top of your bid for everyday after the first 5 days of winning the auction if payment hasnt been received".

This has happened to me more and more lately. Recently I had 5 items up for auction (with lots of bids and interest), and the high bidders on two of the items walked away. It definitely started going downhill fast when eBay made it impossible to give negative feedback to buyers. Then you have to dick around for a week to get a credit for your selling fees. Pain in the ass.

I had (have?) a situation with a seller, who listed an item with a low starting bid and free shipping. I won the auction, and the seller immediately put in with eBay to cancel, citing the shipping was going to net him a total of $15.

Being the nice guy I am, I obliged, only to see him relist the auction in the exact same way ! Multiple others have bid on it, and must have received the same sob story.

Kinja'd!!! Mathias Rios > my car smells like crayons

You were under no obligation to cancel, the winning bid is a binding contract on both ends. What a scummy seller you should've just gone through with it. Haha

Heh, yeah, I was tempted. But given it was a high-ticket automotive item, I didn't want to deal with a half-assed shipping job or any sort of malfeasance on the seller's behalf, resulting in a drawn out eBay resolution dispute.
